This panel will analyze the new political scenario in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), nine years after the so-called Arab spring. The session will consider how Arab investigative  journalists from Sudan, Algeria, Libya, Syria and Yemen continue their battle for free speech and accountability journalism.  They will discuss ways of dealing with growing censorship, hate speech, misinformation, threats and attacks against media. Government actors, vested interests and local militias are all seeking to undermine independent media and silence the few remaining voices of journalists who dare expose the truth

هذه الجلسة تستقرئ سيناريوهات جيوسياسية مستقبلية في الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا، بعد تسع سنوات ممّا يُوصف ب"الربيع العربي". تطرح هذه الجلسة أسئلة حول كيف يواصل الصحافيون الاستقصائيون العرب - في السودان، الجزائر، ليبيا، سوريا واليمن - معركتهم من أجل حرية التعبير وصحافة المساءلة. ويناقش المشاركون وسائل التعامل مع الرقابة المتزايدة وخطاب الكراهية، التضليل ، لتهديدات والهجمات الممنهجة ضد وسائل الإعلام، في وقت تسعى بالجهّات الفاعلة و"الميليشيات" المحلية إلى تقويض وسائل الإعلام المستقلة وإسكات الأصوات الصحافية القليلة المتبقية ممن يتجرّأون على كشف الحقيقة.
